The Secret of Possum Hollow is now out in paperback.
I found out almost accidentally.
The service which did the typesetting and will be doing the distribution sent a proof copy for my final approval last Monday, August 7th.
No sooner did I say it looked good, let’s go with it, I did a self-portrait (the old-fashioned way using a tripod and a timer) giving a “thumbs-up” while holding “Job One”.

See? I even got out the BookFuel rebel free T-shirt.
Anyhoo, after posting the picture on the internet, I get a reply from someone telling me that they have already ordered the book! Mind you, this was just minutes after telling BookFuel that the book was okay and to go ahead and send me the remainder of my proof copies.
So, I go into Amazon and discover that the book has been offered for sale for over a week!! Since July 27th!! Good thing there was nothing wrong with the proof!
Now, I am faced with the challenge of selling said book.
My original plan was to hold release on the book until September 14th, giving me a chance to start pre-selling the thing. Well, that got shot all to heck! Instead, I’m scrambling to keep up a presence on social media. So far, the response has been good. Several people have indicated that they have purchased copies so far. How many, well, I’m not certain… and it will be at least another month and a half before I have those figures. Hopefully there will be more than just those I have coming to autograph for people wanting autographed copies.
And there’s another problem.
The original plan was to release the book concurrent with my high school class reunion on September 16th. I would make arrangements to have books and publicity available to be able to roll-out the book with an autograph session before the reunion, without interfering with the good times to be had by the reunionees (self included).
That plan got blown out of the water due to a situation having to do with my day job – you know, the one you shouldn’t quit for lack of talent? Well, I quit it, due to some built-up frustrations. The substitute job ain’t much better. I mentioned to the better half (the lovely Miss Carol) just last night that I have never become so frustrated so quickly in a job in my life. I’m writing this blog while figuring out exactly what to do next regarding the sale of autographed copies and finding a suitable place to work other than where I am now.
I suppose I could go with the original plan and head up to see my classmates – hoping to find a suitable place to hang my hat beforehand, or… and I’m stumped.
The next few days will hopefully reveal an answer. I’m pretty sure I’m not going to be idle, either in my role as an author or in my role as a laborer trying to make his way through house payments.
The saying “May you live in interesting times” applies here. Stay tuned!
